Bridge collapse in Baltimore: Singaporean authority offers assistance

State of Emergency in Maryland after Singapore-flagged vessel hits bridge

SINGAPORE - The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) will provide full cooperation to the US Coast Guard investigations after a Singapore-flagged vessel collided into the Francis Scott Key bridge in Baltimore, Maryland.

The agency said it would also be investigating the incident involving Dali, a 95,000 GT container vessel operating with 22 crew onboard at the time of the incident at about 1.30pm local time on Tuesday.

"MPA is in contact with the US Coast Guard and the ship’s management company to provide the necessary assistance,” it said in a statement on Tuesday.

According to international media reports, a state of emergency has been declared in Maryland following the incident which saw the collapse of the Francis Scott Key bridge, resulting in several vehicles falling into the river below.

As many as 20 people could be in the river along with numerous vehicles, Reuters reported. - BERNAMA
