SHAH ALAM - The Speaker and the courts will determine whether the seats of the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Members of Parliament (MPs) who declared support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should be vacated or not.

This was said by Labuan MP Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman following the Registrar of Societies' (RoS) approval of the amendment proposal to the Bersatu Constitution at the party's Special General Assembly on March 2.

"Whether they should vacate the seat or not, we have to wait for the decision of the Speaker or the courts. This matter is to be decided by those who have the rightful authority, not by Bersatu.

"We will abide by whatever decision made by the Speaker and the courts. If the Speaker or the courts say they do not have to vacate their seats, then the seats will not be vacated and vice versa. That is our stance," he said.

The Machang MP said with RoS' decision to approve the proposed amendment, it enabled the party to take further steps to vacate the six parliamentary seats, potentially leading to by-elections.

Meanwhile, when asked about the next steps to be taken following the latest developments, Suhaili said all decisions would be made after the Speaker and the courts have made their decisions.
