The neglect of tree maintenance is concerning to the community, as falling trees not only damage property but also pose risks of injury and even fatalities.
Yesterday's incident, captured in a viral video, showed a tree falling on Jalan Sultan Ismail and striking several passing cars.
Tragically, one person was killed, and another was injured in the incident, which also damaged 17 vehicles and the monorail track.
The public facility, including a bus stop, suffered damage.
According to Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations M Fatta M Amin, 27 rescue team members were dispatched from various Fire and Rescue Stations to respond to the incident.
Meanwhile, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa revealed that the fallen tree was over 50 years old and was under a private sector's monitoring.
She highlighted the presence of many trees in the capital, aged between 50 and 80 years old, that are at risk of falling, especially given the current unpredictable weather conditions.
This incident is not isolated; without proper maintenance, similar incidents may occur again.
