Public urges PBT to cut down old trees on road side

KUALA LUMPUR - The incident of a fallen tree in Jalan Sultan Ismail, here which killed a road user yesterday sparks various comments and reactions from netizens on social media including on Sinar Harian's Facebook.

They voiced out their dissatisfaction and urged the local authorities (PBT) across the country to be fully responsible by cutting down the big old trees on the side of the road to avoid similar incidents from happening again.

According to social media user Seri Dewi Mahawangsa, it was true that no one could fight destiny but this was not the first time such incident happened in Kuala Lumpur.

"It seems that the PBT needs to be aware and proactive with what is likely to happen.

"The fact is that the authorities can no longer wait until a new accident occurs before acting," he wrote.

He added that hopefully with what happened, it will open the eyes of all parties about the existence of large trees throughout the country.

Another social media user, Cikgu Kosting did not agree if old trees in Kuala Lumpur were monitored every two years.

"Biennial monitoring for 50-80 year old trees? It's like not monitoring," he said.
