KKB by-election: First-time voter checks candidates' backgrounds before casting vote

HULU SELANGOR - A first-time voter has taken the initiative to review the backgrounds of all the candidates participating in the Kuala Kubu Baharu (KKB) by-election before casting his vote.

Sharing his excitement in fulfilling his responsibility to vote, Yap Yu Heng, 19, said he did so to ensure that the representative he chose was truly capable of serving the people in the state constituency.

"I am very happy and excited today to be able to vote for the first time.

"To ensure I make the right choice, I checked their backgrounds and manifestos since the nomination day.

"I chose to come early because I have school activities today and I asked my friends not to sleep and to come vote early too," he said when met at the polling centre at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Khing Ming, Kuala Kubu Baharu here, today.

The KKB by-election, which saw a four-cornered contest, was held following the death of its incumbent, Lee Kee Hiong, 58, on March 21 due to cancer.

A total of 39,269 registered voters will fulfil their voting responsibilities to elect the KKB state legislative assembly representative.

All 18 polling centres with 74 voting streams were opened simultaneously starting at 8am and will be closed at 6pm.

However, the polling centre at SJKC Bukit Fraser which had 40 voters will be closed at 2pm.

Vote counting will take place at the official vote counting centre at Dewan Serbaguna dan Kompleks Sukan Daerah Hulu Selangor, Kuala Kubu Baharu here.
