MELAKA - A massive 400-kilogramme, 4.3-metre-long saltwater crocodile, which had been causing fear among residents in Klebang, was successfully captured by the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) on Wednesday night.
The intense operation, which lasted over two hours, took place at Sungai Malim, Pulau Gadong.
A seasoned Perhilitan officer with over 30 years of experience handling crocodiles led the team using the "tanjur" method to capture the reptile.
"This is the largest crocodile we’ve captured in 2024, and the fourth one at this location.
"We encourage the public to report any sightings of such dangerous animals," said Perhilitan director Petra Sulai.
The capture of the crocodile followed months of concern among residents of Sungai Malim and Pulau Gadong.
In May, over 2,500 people expressed fear after reports of five crocodiles in the area, including one that attacked a goat.
Last month, state Perhilitan also captured a 3.13-metre-long crocodile in the same location.
Videos of the recent capture have gone viral on social media, with many praising Perhilitan for their successful operation.
