SHAH ALAM - The Road Transport Department (RTD) has handed over the matter involving allegations of abuse of power related to a vehicle deemed unsafe but found to have passed inspection at the Wangsa Maju Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), yesterday.
RTD senior enforcement director Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said three Puspakom staff have been investigated regarding the matter.
He said the individuals arrived at the RTD Headquarters in Putrajaya at around 10.30am.
"RTD is interrogating the three staff involved for further investigation into the case of a car that was found to be unsafe but passed the Puspakom inspection.
"This investigation includes enforcement, technical and integrity elements," he said, today.
He said the department was focusing on issues related to integrity and misconduct and will address any technical faults or violations involving the vehicle and why it was approved.
However, he said the primary focus was on integrity and misconduct.
"If any breaches of rules and procedures leading to abuse of power and corruption are found, the case will be handed over to the MACC for further action," he said.
He also said the department will propose measures to enhance enforcement.
He said if there was a breach of standard operating procedures, the department will compile recommendations to present to the Transport Minister.
Earlier, it was reported that an operation codenamed Op Mengejut Puspakom was implemented nationwide, yesterday.
The operation ensured that all inspected vehicles complied with the required standards.
During the operation at the Wangsa Maju Puspakom, a vehicle deemed unsafe was discovered to have passed its inspection.
Following this, Kifli said the supervisor and Puspakom staff responsible for the inspection were instructed to report to the RTD Headquarters today for questioning and an investigation paper will be opened.
He further revealed that the department inspected 115 lorries, issued 69 summonses and took action against 29 vehicles.
He also said seven vehicles, five cars and two lorries were confiscated during the operation.
