Safety apps that help track locations and send emergency alerts

SHAH ALAM - Smartphone users are encouraged to download safety applications such as Life360 and Red Panic Button to track locations and send emergency alerts, reducing security risks, especially in emergencies or threatening situations.

International Women's Alliance for Family Institution and Quality Education (Wafiq) Vice President, Dr Amirah Ismail said these apps help individuals monitor their location and send emergency alerts to their closest contacts.

"In cases of disappearance or security threats, such applications are highly useful for users, their families and security authorities to provide immediate assistance.

"This technology can also reduce the risk of unfortunate incidents by sending instant notifications, including audio, photos, or videos, to help track locations. Most importantly, it enables authorities to better assess the situation," she told Sinar.

Amirah also said that applications such as mySpy, Eyezy, Spynger and Kitestring offer a check-in function, which automatically contacts users if someone fails to report their whereabouts within a set time.

"Many of these applications are now more user-friendly and accessible to all, including those less familiar with technology.

"In emergencies, time is crucial. Safety applications now come with automation features such as a panic button or one-click activation, allowing users to send emergency alerts instantly without navigating complex steps.

"This is especially useful for those unfamiliar with apps or smart devices, as they only need to press one button to get immediate assistance," she said.

Amirah added that beyond using these applications, efforts to educate women on safety and awareness must also be strengthened.
