SHAH ALAM - The Iftar Ala Madinah @Karangkraf programme returns this year with the aim of encouraging the practice of charity among the community throughout the month of Ramadan.
Karangkraf Group advisor Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub said the programme offers a platform for those who can contribute while also helping to lighten the burden of those in need.
He said the concept of the programme was simple: experiencing iftar as in Madinah, where people sit on the ground and eat together.
"It unites those who give and receive assistance in one place.
"Karangkraf provides the venue as we have a spacious square, a mosque for Tarawih prayers and various other facilities for the comfort of visitors. So, we create an atmosphere reminiscent of Madinah and Makkah, as well as a platform for those who are able to give charity.
"Anyone who wants to help can contribute by donating money, providing food, or volunteering their time to keep this programme running. Meanwhile, travellers and those in need are welcome to break their fast for free," he said.
Hussamuddin added that this year, they aimed to provide 1,500 meal sets each day.
He said the number could be increased if public donations grew.
"Last year, on certain days, the number of visitors exceeded 2,000, which shows a very encouraging response.
"Besides receiving donations in the form of money and food, the organisers also welcome volunteers to help with setting up the venue and distributing meals," he said.
He expressed hope that more members of the community would come forward to contribute sincerely and join the programme as volunteers.
He added that those who wished to break their fast for free to register early to ensure smooth food distribution and avoid wastage.
The Iftar Ala Madinah @Karangkraf programme will run from March 3 to 27 and is open to 1,500 guests to break their fast for free daily, except for Saturday, Sunday and on public holidays.
