KUALA LUMPUR – A nurse suffered head injuries requiring stitches after being attacked by an unknown man while walking to a bus stop in front of a hotel on Jalan Pahang.
Dang Wangi district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said the attack took place on Feb 28 at approximately 5.10pm.
The victim, a Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) employee, was struck on the back of her head with a hard object before the suspect fled the scene.
"The suspect acted so quickly that the victim did not have time to notice his presence.
"She sustained a head injury and received four stitches after seeking treatment at HKL," he said in a statement on Tuesday.
Following investigations and information received, police arrested the suspect on March 1.
"The suspect, a local man, was apprehended at around 10.11pm near the scene. A search of his belongings led to the discovery of a paper cutter knife," he said.
Further investigations revealed that the suspect was mentally unstable and did not possess any identification documents.
He was also unable to verbally provide his personal details.
"The suspect was subsequently taken to HKL and later placed in the Psychiatric Ward for further observation.
"The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code," he added.
