Three Era FM radio hosts under police investigation – IGP

SHAH ALAM - Police have opened an investigation paper regarding a controversial video that went viral on social media, involving three Era FM radio presenters who were allegedly mocking a religious celebration recently.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said that so far, six police reports had been received in relation to the issue.

"Preliminary investigations found that the video had been deleted by the radio station after receiving backlash from various parties.

"However, checks revealed that the video had already been viewed 95,400 times and was shared by 204 users on social media," he said on Tuesday.

According to him, the investigation is being conducted under Section 298 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

He added that a police report was lodged by an individual who watched the video on Facebook, alleging that it involved several individuals from the radio station mocking the Hindu religion.

"In the recording, several individuals were allegedly shouting 'Vel Vel,' while another person was seen dancing in a manner deemed to be mocking religious rituals.

"This act is seen as touching on racial sensitivities and could disrupt the harmony of the multiracial society in the country," he said.

Earlier, three Era FM presenters—Nabil Ahmad, Azad Jasmin, and Radin Amir Effendi Ahmad Aruani—were immediately suspended from broadcasting after the controversial video sparked public outrage.

Astro Audio, in a statement, said that it takes the matter seriously and has taken immediate action against all those involved.

Meanwhile, Radin, in a statement on social media, admitted their mistake and promised that such an incident would not happen again.
