KUALA TERENGGANU – A housewife sustained head injuries and required five stitches after being struck by a bicycle hurled from the 12th floor of the People’s Housing Project (PPR) flats in Padang Hiliran on Monday.
It was reported when the incident occurred around 4pm when Azuraini Yazid, 43, an assistant at a Kemas preschool in Pasir Panjang, was heading out to dispose of rubbish near her apartment block.
The impact caused her to collapse and lose consciousness, with blood covering her head.
Her husband, Jusri Ibrahim, 48, reportedly said that Azuraini fell unconscious, with blood all over her head after being struck by the bicycle.
"I rushed home immediately after receiving a call from my child informing me that my wife was injured,” said Jusri, who works as a driver for the Kuala Terengganu City Council (MBKT).
Paramedics provided emergency treatment at the scene before transporting Azuraini to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ), where she received five stitches.
She was later discharged in stable condition.
Investigation Underway
Following the incident, Jusri confronted the bicycle owner, who confirmed that it belonged to his child but denied that any family member had thrown it.
"We have spoken to the owner, who claims someone else threw the bicycle, which had been left outside their home," he said.
Kuala Terengganu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor confirmed that a police report had been lodged and an investigation is ongoing.
"We have recorded the statement of a resident who confirmed the bicycle belonged to him but denied throwing it," he said, adding that initial findings suggest an unidentified individual may have discarded the bicycle from the upper floor.
Recurring Issue in High-Rise Flats
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of vandalism and reckless behaviour in high-rise residential areas.
Cases of objects being thrown from upper floors have led to severe injuries and even fatalities in Malaysia.
In January 2018, a 15-year-old boy was killed after being struck by a chair thrown from a high-rise building in Pantai Dalam.
In April the same year, a television set was hurled from an apartment in Taman Seri Intan, Selangor, damaging a parked car.
Residents of PPR flats and other high-rise residences were urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious behaviour to authorities to prevent further tragedies.
