TAPAH - Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) candidate for the Ayer Kuning by-election Bawani KS was the first registered voter to cast her ballot at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Pheng Lok, this morning.
Bawani, 39, arrived at the polling centre at 8am, accompanied by PSM deputy chairman S. Arutchelvan.
Expressing relief after the two-week campaign, the Perak PSM chairperson said the party had done its best and would leave the rest to the voters, no matter the outcome.
"We feel relieved and we’ve done our best throughout these two weeks of campaigning.
"The rest is up to the Ayer Kuning constituents. We hope they will make the best choice," she told Sinar.
The Ayer Kuning state by-election will see a three-cornered fight between Bawani, Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir and Perikatan Nasional (PN) representative Abd Muhaimin Malek.
The by-election was triggered by the unexpected vacancy following the death of the incumbent, Ishsam Shahruddin, 59, due to a heart attack on Feb 22.
The late Ishsam from BN, won the seat during the 15th General Election with a 2,213-vote majority in a five-cornered contest.
The Ayer Kuning by-election involved a total of 31,281 registered voters.
Last Tuesday, 93.4 per cent of 500 police personnel and their spouses fulfilled their voting duties at two polling centres during the early voting process for the by-election.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has issued 116 postal ballots to eligible postal voters.
