HOSPITAL Picaso has introduced its new Cancer Centre, a specially designed facility that delivers comprehensive cancer care all in one location.
The centre promotes close collaboration among specialists by bringing together early screening, diagnostics, advanced treatments, and supportive care under one roof.
This integrated model helps improve clinical decision-making, shortens treatment delays, and ensures a more personalised, patient-centred experience.
As a result, the standard of cancer care in Malaysia is expected to rise.
Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Hospital Picaso, Dr Mastura Md Yusof, said the opening of the Cancer Centre marks more than just a new facility.
"By integrating the entire process - from screenings to surgeries - all orchestrated within a single centre, we are redefining the cancer journey through a wholesome approach.
"This reflects our commitment to advanced surgery and personalised care for every patient," she said during the official launch on Thursday.
Hospital Picaso is leading the charge in delivering integrated cancer care, staying true to its philosophy of "Advanced Surgery, Personalised Care.”
With the centre in place, patients no longer have to manage care across different providers on their own.
Everything is offered under one roof, from early detection and diagnostic imaging to consultations with specialists, surgery, and follow-up care. This setup allows for quicker clinical decisions, collective expertise, and a smoother treatment experience, leading to improved patient outcomes.
The opening of the Cancer Centre is especially timely, given that cancer remains the third leading cause of death in Malaysia. Between 2017 and 2021, 65.1 per cent of cancer cases were diagnosed at later stages (Stage 3 and 4).
These concerning statistics highlight the urgent need for earlier detection and more coordinated, comprehensive care from diagnosis to recovery.
Dr Mastura also stressed the importance of personalised care, which goes beyond medical treatment.
She noted that patients should feel like individuals with unique needs, have control over their choices, and feel valued throughout their healing journey.
"That's the strength of a multidisciplinary team - we're not just treating cancer, we're caring for the whole person,” she added.
She further pointed out that early collaboration among specialists results in better decisions, quicker treatment, and ultimately, better outcomes.
With cancer risk now affecting about one in eight Malaysians, for both men and women, the need for accessible, coordinated cancer care is more urgent than ever.
A facility like this, which consolidates all aspects of treatment and support, is a vital step in addressing this national health crisis with greater speed, precision, and compassion.
The Hospital Picaso Cancer Centre provides a full range of oncology services, including early screening, precision diagnostics, surgery, and advanced cancer therapies.
These therapies include chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy, along with a broad spectrum of radiotherapy options tailored to individual patient needs.
Supporting the centre is a dedicated Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Department, which plays a vital role in early detection, accurate diagnosis, and effective treatment planning.
Meanwhile, consultant radiologist and interventional radiologist, Dr Basri Johan Jeet Abdullah, highlighted radiology’s role in precision medicine.
He stated that radiologists help identify suitable patients for interventional procedures, track responses to therapy, and provide imaging biomarkers for early adjustments to treatment.
These tools contribute to improved clinical pathways that can be adapted in near real-time, enhancing overall outcomes.
By combining cutting-edge innovation with integrated care, Hospital Picaso is not only responding to Malaysia’s growing cancer burden, it’s also transforming how the country approaches cancer treatment.
This holistic approach aims to deliver better patient outcomes and improve the quality of life for those affected.
