KOTA BHARU - In a move to uphold cultural and religious values, the Kelantan state government is introducing Husband-and-Wife Day as a wholesome alternative to Valentine’s Day.

State Executive Councillor for Welfare, Family and Women Development, Rohani Ibrahim, announced that 500 couples from across Kelantan are expected to attend the state-level programme.

"This programme is held as an alternative to Valentine’s Day, which clearly contradicts Eastern cultural values and Islamic teachings.

"Kelantan had previously organised a similar event in 2012 and this year’s return would come with fresher and more meaningful content,” she said.

Planned activities will celebrate married life and reinforce the institution of family in accordance with Islamic values.

With the theme Together Until Jannah, the event aims to nurture love, improve communication in marriages and promote the value of lawful love—one that should be protected, cherished and blessed.

"I call on all married couples to participate in this programme and make it a symbolic appreciation for one another,” she added.
