FROM struggling with punctuality to being honoured as Malaysia’s official G-Shock ambassador, actor and comedian Zizan Razak shares how mastering time management has reshaped both his mindset and his career.
Time has become more than a concept for Zizan, it’s now a guiding principle.
Reflecting on his early career habits, he admitted that time management was something that was an initial blockade early on during his journey in the entertainment industry.
"If you ask me, I used to struggle with time discipline. I don’t know, maybe it’s a common issue in the industry. Maybe I was influenced by others who arrived late to events or jobs.
"But over time, I realised that’s not healthy. Discipline is crucial,” he said during the ambassador launch by Casio Malaysia recently.
He went on to stress the importance of punctuality and early preparation.
"First, people will notice and respect you for being on time. Second, you can achieve so much more if you arrive early.
For example, if your work starts at 1pm, try to be there by 11.30am or 12 noon. You’ll have time to do other things, maybe hold a meeting or prepare better.”
Zizan's relationship with watches has always been more than aesthetic.
"I can’t leave the house without a watch, I need to see the time. I really have to plan my schedule properly so that every day feels meaningful. I don’t want to waste my time,” he told Sinar Daily.
Japan’s citizens have been widely regarded around the world as firm believers of punctuality and time efficiency in most aspects of their daily life.
Drawing inspiration from his recent travels to the beautiful country, he noted that Japan’s values exemplify the character he strives to be.
"During my trip to Japan, I noticed how much the Japanese value time. Their country is so advanced, and most of the people I’ve met who are disciplined—especially with time—are all successful.
So to me, the best thing is to manage your time properly. Arrive an hour or even an hour and a half early, if possible. You can get so much done,” he said.
At a star-studded launch by Casio Malaysia, Zizan Razak was unveiled as the official Malaysian ambassador for G-Shock, a role he describes as a deeply personal achievement.
"Firstly, I have to say I’m very proud of this opportunity. It’s a truly great milestone for me. G-Shock is such a big name.
"Over there, the ambassadors are really well-known personalities. So when they choose someone, they choose very qualified people for the role,” Zizan said, who had just returned from Japan, where he experienced first-hand the cultural respect the brand commands.
As a lifelong fan of G-Shock watches, he recalled fondly of his humble beginnings.
"I’ve been wearing G-Shock watches for a long time, but I never thought I’d reach this level. I wore it simply because I’m a big fan.
"Back then, before I became an artist, I couldn’t even afford a G-Shock. If I did buy one, it’d be a Fufu (replica) version. Later, when I could afford it, I tried to buy some rare ones, even if I still couldn’t really afford them. But I still bought them.
"So being chosen as a G-Shock ambassador and getting to work with them is not just a collaboration, it’s a major achievement in my career,” he said.
