SHAH ALAM – Sungai Besar Umno Division Chief Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos has confirmed he is now free of end-stage cancer after battling the illness for five months.
Jamal revealed that the cancer, initially detected in his lungs before spreading to his brain and throughout his body, was no longer present following intensive treatment.
"Alhamdulillah, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to friends, loved ones and the people of Malaysia for their constant prayers for my health,” he said in a statement on Monday.
He admitted the fight against cancer was far from easy but credited his perseverance and unwavering determination as key to his recovery.
"After fighting end-stage cancer for four to five months, my specialist doctors have now confirmed that the cancer is no longer present in my body.
"I sincerely thank my friends, companions and all Malaysians for their prayers and support,” he said.
On March 28, Sinar reported that Jamal was receiving treatment at a private hospital after complaining of pain in his neck and head.
Medical examinations, including an Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan, revealed that the cancer had spread to his brain, with a tumor measuring approximately 3 centimetres.
In September 2022, during his tenure as Barisan Nasional (BN) Selangor’s communications chief, Jamal was rushed to hospital after suddenly falling ill at a party event in Sungai Besar.
He had been hospitalised several times to undergo treatment for stage four lung cancer.
