Third floor of SM Sains Alam Shah razed in early morning fire

KUALA LUMPUR – The entire third floor of a building at Sekolah Menengah (SM) Sains Alam Shah, Bandar Tun Razak, was completely destroyed in a fire on Tuesday.

In a statement, the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre said it received an emergency call via the MERS 999 hotline at 4.15am.

It said a team from the Bandar Tun Razak Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was deployed to the scene to extinguish the fire, with assistance from BBP Jalan Hang Tuah, BBP Cheras, and BBP Sentul.

"This morning’s fire involved the entire third floor of the building, with an estimated area of 91.44 by 9.144 square metres.

"The third floor of the building was 100 per cent destroyed,” the statement said on Tuesday.

The blaze was brought under control by 5.08am and fully extinguished by 6.18am. No injuries or casualties were reported.

The firefighting operation involved a total of 44 personnel along with four Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) engines, two Water Tankers, one Aerial Ladder Platform and one Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) vehicle.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by JBPM Kuala Lumpur’s Fire Forensics Unit.
