KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail has been appointed as Malaysia’s 15th Inspector-General of Police (IGP), officially taking over the nation’s top police post on Friday.
His appointment was confirmed during a handover ceremony witnessed by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) in Kuala Lumpur.
Khalid, who previously served as Special Branch Director since May 8, 2023, succeeds Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, whose contract as IGP ends on June 22.
Before becoming Director, he was appointed Special Branch I Deputy Director on Oct 25, 2022.
On Nov 2, 2023, Khalid was conferred the Knight Grand Commander of the Most Gallant Police Order (PGPP) by His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, at Istana Negara.
Razarudin was appointed as the 14th IGP on June 23, 2023, succeeding Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani. His leadership spanned two years.
Born on March 15, 1963, in Dengkil, Selangor, Razarudin holds a Master’s Degree in Social Science (Police Studies) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
He began his service in 1984 as an Investigating Officer with the Kedah Contingent’s Criminal Investigation Department.
Over the years, he held several key positions, including D9 Assistant Director (CID Bukit Aman), Special Task Force on Organised Crime (STAFOC) Deputy Commander, Head of the Penang CID, Sabah Deputy Police Commissioner, and Perak Police Chief.
He later became Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department Director at Bukit Aman for a year before serving as Deputy IGP from 2021 until June 2023.
Razarudin is married to Puan Sri Zainah Othman and is a father to five children.
