SHAH ALAM – Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has accused Pas of changing its position three times within a week over the issue of judicial independence, which is currently under public scrutiny.

He said the party initially took a conditional stance when its deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man insisted that he would only support the proposal to form a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) after participating in a rally organised by the Malaysian Bar.

“After his statement was criticised by the public, former Pas Youth chief and Pasir Mas MP Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said the party’s actual position was to support my proposal.

“Then, just a day later, Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the opposition rejected the proposal altogether,” Rafizi said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

The former economy minister added that the party’s shifting stance in such a short time reflected a lack of consistency and showed that the opposition was merely exploiting the issue for political gain.

“In just one week, Pas has shifted its stance three times. This is similar to their tendency to issue varying judgments depending on the situation, as long as it benefits them politically.

“The issue of judicial independence should be taken seriously by all parties, regardless of political interest.

“But in the end, it is the government supporters who speak up more boldly, while the opposition appears focused only on ‘climbing back into power’ to become ministers again,” he said.

Rafizi also warned that such a strategy of politicising serious issues could backfire on the opposition itself.

“It’s hard not to exploit an issue when the only political strategy you have is to exploit,” he said.
