PUTRAJAYA – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has challenged the opposition to table a vote of no confidence in the Dewan Rakyat if they truly have enough support to topple the unity government under his leadership.
Speaking at the monthly gathering with staff of the Prime Minister’s Department, this morning, Anwar said he has no issue facing them openly through proper democratic channels rather than giving in to street protests demanding a change in government.
“I’ve told the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, if there is a motion today, on the first day of the Parliamentary sitting, I will wait for the vote of no confidence.
“If there is a majority, go ahead,” he said.
Anwar said he has been informed of allegations that the government must be overthrown immediately without waiting for a general election.
“Some are saying Anwar must step down. I’ve heard there are thousands of participants.
“The police gave me their report and I said let them proceed, don’t stop them,” he added.
