SHAH ALAM – Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming has criticised participants of the Turun Anwar rally for indiscriminately littering, which he said caused unnecessary trouble for public cleaning staff.
In a post on platform X, the Teluk Intan MP expressed regret over the irresponsible behaviour of opposition supporters, stating that the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) had to work tirelessly to clean up the mess left behind.
“As the Minister overseeing the public cleansing agency @swcorp_my, I’m deeply disappointed with Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) dirty behaviour and the rubbish they left scattered everywhere.
“The Madani government embraces democracy and does not hinder peaceful assemblies, but please maintain cleanliness. Don’t embarrass the country. Understood?” he wrote on Saturday.
He added that the unhygienic attitude displayed by those involved was truly shameful.
It was reported that approximately 15 metric tonnes, or 15,000 kilograms, of rubbish were left behind by rally participants.
The opposition-led rally was reportedly aimed at pressuring Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to resign.
Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said in a statement that the rally proceeded peacefully without any public order disturbances.
He added that based on monitoring, the crowd size was estimated at around 18,000 people.
