Federal Police JIPS to probe case investigating officers, supervisors in Zara's case

An investigation into the incident was being carried out by JISP, including non-compliance with investigation procedures involving the death of the 13-year-old student.

KUALA LUMPUR - Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) will conduct an investigation against the investigating officers including the supervisors involved in the investigation into the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir.

Bukit Aman JIPS director Datuk Hamzah Ahmad said an investigation into the incident was being carried out by his department, including non-compliance with investigation procedures involving the death of the 13-year-old student.

"Investigations are underway (including regarding non-compliance with investigation procedures involving Zara Qairina's death)," he said when contacted here, today.

When asked whether the investigation also involved supervisors such as the head of the district Criminal Investigation Division and the district police chief (OCPD), Hamzah said that all matters involved were still under investigation by his department.

Last Friday, the AGC ordered that Zara Qairina's grave be exhumed to enable a post-mortem to be carried out on the student's remains

The AGC decided this after considering that there was a need for further investigation by the police to ensure that the investigation could be carried out thoroughly.

Following this, on August 9, the teenager's grave at the Tanjung Ubi Islamic Cemetery, Kampung Mesapol, Sipitang in Sabah was exhumed and her remains were taken to the Queen Elizabeth I Hospital for a post-mortem before being reburied two days ago at the same cemetery.

Zara Qairina was confirmed dead at the Queen Elizabeth I Hospital, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah on July 17 after being admitted to the hospital after being found unconscious in a drain near the SMKA Tun Datu Mustapha dormitory, Papar at 4 am on July 16. - BERNAMA
