SHAH ALAM – Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has slammed Penang DAP Youth's call for their party leadership to cut political ties with him. The call was made following allegations that his actions were provocative.
Dr Akmal said that any move to sever ties with him should not be viewed in isolation from the organisation he represents.
“Cutting ties with me means cutting ties with Umno Youth, which means cutting ties with Umno. Ok. Bring it on,” he said in a Facebook post on Friday.
The statement from Penang DAP Youth came after Dr Akmal led a protest outside a hardware shop in Kepala Batas, Penang.
The protest was prompted by a viral video of the shop owner displaying the Malaysian flag, Jalur Gemilang, upside down.
Observers state that Dr Akmal’s bold remarks serve as a clear warning that any political action against him could strain the relationship between DAP and Umno, especially within the Unity Government.
