World’s ‘nicest judge’ Frank Caprio dies after cancer recurrence

A post on his Instagram account confirmed the death of the municipal Rhode Island judge, saying he passed away after "a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer."

WASHINGTON - Frank Caprio, a US judge widely known as the "nicest judge in the world" for a career marked by compassion, has died after a recurrence of pancreatic cancer, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported according to a statement published Wednesday.

A post on his Instagram account confirmed the death of the municipal Rhode Island judge, saying he passed away after "a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer."

It did not specify when he died.

"Beloved for his compassion, humility, and unwavering belief in the goodness of people, Judge Caprio touched the lives of millions through his work in the courtroom and beyond," the post read.

"He will be remembered not only as a respected judge, but as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. His legacy lives on in the countless acts of kindness he inspired. In his honour, may we each strive to bring a little more compassion into the world -- just as he did every day," it added.

On Tuesday, Caprio shared a video from his hospital bed, thanking his followers for their prayers while acknowledging a "setback" in his battle with cancer.

"I'm asking you to remember me in your prayers once more," he said.

Caprio starred in the Emmy-nominated show Caught in Providence, which aired from 2018 to 2020 before moving to YouTube.

In the programme, he presided over cases involving various alleged offences, often displaying the demeanour of a kindly father and treating defendants with compassion. - BERNAMA-ANADOLU
