SIK – Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has yet to confirm whether he will contest the Pas vice-president post despite being nominated.
He said the decision will only be made within the next few days.
“I have never chased positions within the party. Even my current post was given by the elders, who pointed me to where I should be. I am aware of my own standing and do not feel the need to climb any higher in the hierarchy.
“However, I also have to respect those who nominated me... but they also need to know whether I am willing or not and that has to be asked directly to me,” he said after attending the Kedah State Social Welfare Department’s (JKMN) 2025 Welfare and Legal Advocacy Programme here on Tuesday.
Sanusi, who is also the party's election director stressed that he has never pursued positions within the party and that his principles remained firm.
“In Pas, there is no fight for positions and I hope that tradition will last until the end of time. Many parties in the world have been destroyed because of such fights — when they fight for positions, they begin bribing; when they bribe, they begin engaging in corruption; when they are corrupt, they begin stealing; and when they steal, they end up destroying the country.
“It starts from feeling entitled to hold a position... so this must not exist in Pas and I do not want it to exist within me,” he said.
It was reported that the Alor Setar Pas division unanimously nominated the Jeneri assemblyman during its 46th Annual General Meeting.
The proposal, submitted by the Alor Setar Pas Youth Council, received full support from delegates.
Alor Setar Pas president Datuk Ahmad Yahaya said the nomination was intended to strengthen the party’s organisation and prepare its election machinery for a possible general election in the near future.
Previously, it was reported that Sanusi, who is also Kedah Perikatan Nasional chairman had declined to contest the post twice despite being nominated.
