SHAH ALAM - TikTok Shop has delivered a major boost to Malaysian micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), with its #JomLokal initiative driving more than 130 per cent year-on-year (YoY) sales growth for homegrown products through multi-million-ringgit support in exposure, vouchers and marketing resources.
TikTok Shop marked Merdeka season this year by reinforcing its commitment to supporting Malaysian businesses through its always-on #JomLokal initiative, which has generated a significant sales uplift of over 130 per cent YoY for local products and MSMEs.
Highlighting the impact of the campaign, TikTok Shop Malaysia director of strategic partnerships Nur Azre Abdul Aziz said the initiative is more than just a sales campaign.
“It represents our collective and unwavering commitment to empower Malaysian small businesses and spotlight Malaysian-made products.
“Since launching the initiative in 2023, we have funded millions of ringgit worth of additional platform exposure, discount vouchers and marketing resources every year for thousands of #JomLokal businesses to grow sustainably and scale on TikTok Shop.
“It is encouraging to witness how this initiative has delivered a tangible impact for local MSMEs and strengthened the presence of homegrown brands in the digital economy,” Azre said.
The #JomLokal initiative makes Malaysian brands more visible on the TikTok Shop app, with a dedicated icon at the top of the homepage.
Backed by TikTok Shop’s unique “Shoppertainment” model, businesses can connect with customers nationwide, from discovery to purchase, through livestreams and shoppable videos.
Local entrepreneurs have already seen the results.
Frisha Classic Desserts and Bakery co-manager Frisha Fazara Ishak shared how the initiative transformed her family business.
“My family and I are deeply grateful to TikTok Shop for supporting local MSMEs like us, through #JomLokal. Livestreams and shoppable videos have catapulted our business growth to consistently achieve an average of five-digit sales every month.
“Having accumulated over 7,000 followers, we truly believe the power of Shoppertainment can level the playing field for small businesses to be discovered and build a loyal customer base. If even my elderly parents in their 70s can do it, anyone can,” she said.
TikTok Shop has pledged to step up support for #JomLokal during the Merdeka celebrations and beyond. To ensure worry-free shopping, all orders on the platform are protected by its Free Return and Refund Policies.
