KAJANG – A six-year-old boy was injured after being attacked and bitten by a dog while riding his bicycle near his home in a residential area in Batu 9, Cheras, on Wednesday.
An 11-second video clip that has since gone viral on social media shows the child struggling with the dog before managing to escape.
Several photos have also circulated online showing the victim covered in blood, with torn skin on his head.
Kajang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said a report of the incident was lodged by the victim’s brother, a 20-year-old technician, at 11.41pm.
“At the time of the incident, the victim was cycling when the dog suddenly attacked and bit him.
"The swift action of several neighbours who rushed to help managed to chase the dog away,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
Naazron said the boy suffered injuries to the head and was taken to the hospital immediately after the incident. He is currently warded in the Children’s Ward at Kajang Hospital and is in stable condition.
“Following the incident, enforcement officers from the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) arrived at the scene after receiving complaints from residents and successfully captured the dog for further action.
"The status of the animal is still under investigation to determine whether it was a registered pet or otherwise,” he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 289 of the Penal Code and Section 41(1) of the Animals Act 1953.
