SHAH ALAM – Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has retained his position as Pas President, a post he has held for 23 years, after being confirmed to have won uncontested at the party’s 71st Annual General Assembly.
Hadi, who is also the Marang Member of Parliament and former Terengganu Menteri Besar, was declared the winner for the 2025–2027 party leadership term.
Pas Central Election Committee (JKPP) chairman Wan Rohimi Wan Daud said the confirmation was made after all nomination replies were received and reviewed by the committee during its meeting last Tuesday.
He said Kubang Kerian MP Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man also retained his position as Pas Deputy President, emerging as the sole candidate and winning uncontested.
“The three Vice Presidents - Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, Datuk Idris Ahmad and Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Amar Abdullah - also won uncontested for their posts.
"The positions of Permanent Chairman and Deputy Permanent Chairman were not contested, with incumbents Hussin Ismail and Kamal Shaari retaining their seats,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
Wan Rohimi further confirmed that Alor Setar MP Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden will continue to lead the party's Youth Wing after also winning uncontested as Pas Youth Chief.
“The Pas Women’s Wing remains under Nuridah Salleh, while all positions in the Pas Ulama Council for the 2025–2027 term were also won uncontested, including its chief, Datuk Ahmad Yahaya,” he added.
He said elections would only take place for the Central Working Committee (CWC) posts after 38 candidates were confirmed eligible, while eight others declined their nominations.
Among those contesting for the positions are Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud, Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli, Pas Treasurer Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad and Pas Central Committee member Nasrudin Hassan.
Other candidates include several Pas MPs such as Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim (Arau), Datuk Ahmad Amzad Mohamed @ Hashim (Kuala Terengganu), Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (Pasir Mas), Datuk Awang Hashim (Pendang), Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi (Kuala Langat), Ir Khairil Nizam Khirudin (Jerantut), Dr Halimah Ali (Kapar) and Datuk Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff (Rantau Panjang).
Therefore, Wan Rohimi said only the elections for the Pas Central Working Committee, Pas Youth Wing and Pas Women’s Wing will take place at this year’s assembly.
The Pas Annual General Assembly is scheduled to be held at the Pas Kedah Complex, Kota Sarang Semut, Pendang, from Sept 11 to 16.
