KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia is consolidating its key digital agencies under one umbrella as part of its mission to become an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Nation by 2030, with a vision to strengthen the digital ecosystem, empower the economy and enhance citizens’ quality of life.
Digital Ministry Secretary General Fabian Bigar said the agencies involved in the consolidation include the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), MYNIC Berhad (MYNIC), CyberSecurity Malaysia, Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) and several others.
He explained that the merger is aimed at aligning different missions with the government’s digital vision.
He acknowledged the challenges of merging agencies with diverse cultures and mandates but stressed that the effort is necessary to accelerate Malaysia’s digital transformation.
“An AI Nation means Malaysia uses technology to empower the economy, improve the quality of life for its people and build a more inclusive society. However, human intervention remains vital to ensure that technology is not only sophisticated but also brings human value.
“Various initiatives have already been launched to support this vision, such as AI for Citizens, CyberSafe for Citizens and the Executive Digital Leadership programme, which trains industry leaders.
“These efforts aim to ensure that not only ordinary citizens, but also executives and policymakers are prepared to face the AI era,” he said during a discussion session titled ‘National Digital Foundation for Smarter, Inclusive and Investable Cities’ at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) on Friday.
The session, held in conjunction with the Smart City Expo Kuala Lumpur 2025, was moderated by MDEC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Anuar Fariz Fadzil.
Fabian further emphasised how technology is shaping everyday life, from smartphones and smart home applications to digital healthcare services and generative AI-based education.
