KL City doubled their lead in the 56th minute when Spanish import Victor Ruiz struck home from Muhammad Safawi’s delivery from the middle of the park.

KUALA LUMPUR - An all-round performance from winger Muhammad Safawi Rasid helped Kuala Lumpur City (KL City) FC move into second place in the Super League as they thrashed DPMM FC 4-0 in Brunei tonight.

Although both teams displayed balanced play in the first half at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, the hosts came close through striker Muhammad Ramadhan Sananta in the 14th minute, only to be denied by goalkeeper Quincy Kameraad.

A costly mistake from DPMM defender Pengiran Yura Indera Putera Pengiran Yunos, whose back pass was poorly handled by goalkeeper Muhammad Haimie Abdullah Nyaring, gifted KL City their opening goal in the 25th minute.

The 28-year-old then scored a brace as he capitalised on a pass from skipper Zhafri Yahya to fire in a thunderous strike for KL City’s third goal in the 64th minute, before calmly slotting home Ruiz’s through ball in the 84th to seal a comprehensive win.

The result extended KL City’s unbeaten run to five matches since their 3-0 victory over newcomers Imigresen FC on Aug 9.
