Kowima to host inaugural Women Coop Fest in October, targets 50,000 visitors

KUALA LUMPUR - Konsortium Koperasi Wanita Malaysia Berhad (Kowima) is organising the inaugural Women Coop Fest 2025 from Oct 16 to 19 at MyTown Shopping Mall, Cheras, here, targeting up to 50,000 visitors.

Kowima chairman Rozilah Mohamad Tahir said the festival would serve as a platform for young women to establish new cooperatives and introduce entrepreneurship opportunities.

"The organisation of the Women Coop E-Sports Kowima Cup Tournament will be made an annual event, thereby providing space for young people to form cooperatives and bringing them closer to Kowima,” she said at a press conference here today.

According to Rozilah, the four-day carnival will offer a variety of exciting activities, including the Mr & Mrs Meow Cat Show, karaoke competition, cultural performances, cake decoration contest, religious talks and food decoration competition, alongside exhibitions and product sales.

She said the e-sports competition would be held on Oct 16 and 17 with walk-in participation, while the closing date for booth rental applications was Oct 13.

Rozilah said the festival would feature 40 exhibition booths, involving over 20 cooperatives and 20 entrepreneurs offering health products, food, clothing, insurance and other services.

Also to be held during the festival is the MADANI Rahmah Sales on Oct 16 and 17, while the opening ceremony is scheduled for 3 pm on Oct 16 by Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick.

Meanwhile, Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad (ANGKASA) chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Fattah Abdullah said that as of December 2024, there were 281 women’s cooperatives registered with the Malaysian Cooperative Societies Commission (SKM), including 31 cooperatives established by single mothers.

"It is hoped that this number will continue to increase after the festival, particularly through the involvement of young people in line with the International Year of Cooperatives (IYC) under the United Nations, themed ‘Be the Better World’,” he said. - BERNAMA
