His family announced his death in an official Facebook statement, saying he breathed his last at about 7pm on Wednesday.

SHAH ALAM - Datuk Mohd Chan Abdullah, the founder and driving force behind the popular Mohd Chan chain of halal Chinese Muslim restaurants, passed away at Hospital Sungai Buloh on Wednesday evening.

He was 72.

His family announced his death in an official Facebook statement, saying he breathed his last at about 7pm.

“We truly appreciate the prayers and condolences from everyone. May Allah SWT shower His mercy upon his soul, forgive his sins, accept his good deeds and place him among the righteous,” the statement read.

Funeral prayers were held Thursday morning at Masjid At-Taqwa, Taman Tun Dr Ismail this morning.

He will be laid to rest at Raudhatul Sakinah Muslim Cemetery, Bukit Kiara 2, after the Zuhur prayers.

Founded more than a decade ago, the Mohd Chan brand began with a humble shop in Bukit Beruntung, Selangor and has since grown to 18 outlets across the Klang Valley.

Known for its halal Chinese Muslim cuisine, the restaurant brought authentic Chinese flavours to Muslim diners while attracting a loyal non-Muslim following for its taste and quality.
