Boy hit on head with hammer on ventilator

A man suspected of severely beating his nephew with a hammer at a shop house in Jelawat, Kelantan, was found dead near Pantai Melawi, Bachok.

KOTA BHARU - A boy who was hit on the head with a hammer by his uncle in Jelawat, Bachok yesterday, is now in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Hospital Pakar Universiti Sains Malaysia (HPUSM) due to persistent bleeding in his head.

The victim, Muhammad Ammar Muhammad Badrul, 7, is being closely monitored and has been put on a ventilator.

His father, Muhammad Badrul Remli, 31, through a Facebook post today, asked the public to pray for a miracle for his eldest child.

"Assalamualaikum, friends, this is my child who was beaten in Jelawat, Bachok the day before yesterday. Seeking your kindness to pray for my eldest child to have all matters facilitated. Critical condition, bleeding in the head is non-stop.

"Hopefully, the prayers from everyone will work a miracle for my son, (Muhammad Ammar)," he said in the post.

Muhammad Badrul said he received a call at 4.30pm yesterday from his sister, who is also the suspect's wife, informing him that her son had been hit with a hammer.

He said that upon arriving at the house, he found his son covered in blood and lying in a small room.

"The doctor informed us that Muhammad Ammar's condition is 50-50 (critical). When I saw him, there was a slight movement in his head as if he wanted to ask for help," he said.

Yesterday, a man suspected of severely beating his nephew with a hammer at a shop house in Jelawat, Kelantan, was found dead near Pantai Melawi, Bachok.

The 46-year-old man was found hanging from a casuarina tree about three kilometres from the shop house.

Following that, police arrested a 36-year-old woman, who is also the child's aunt, to assist in the investigation under Section 326 of the Penal Code and Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001. - BERNAMA
