Ismail, who is Bera MP highlighted Asean's important role in maintaining a balance in relations with major powers such as the US and China, especially in economic cooperation.

“Malaysia from the past until now has been consistent in opposing Israel and recognising Palestine as a state.

“The world’s failure in addressing Israel’s atrocities stems from the veto power at the United Nations (UN), which the US often uses to reject any resolutions involving Israel.

“When I was Prime Minister, I addressed the UN, calling for the abolition of veto power because it causes all decisions regarding Israel to fail and as long as that power exists, anything decided will be vetoed by the US,” he said.
