KUALA LUMPUR - A total of 34 Malaysians are part of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian mission to Gaza, joining an international effort to deliver aid and show solidarity with Palestinians despite escalating risks at sea.
Following a restructuring of the delegation’s roles by the Sumud Nusantara Command Centre (SNCC) yesterday, two Malaysian delegates, Hidayat Abdullah and Nik Aziz Nik Mohammad, were reassigned to Amman, Jordan, to assist the legal team secretariat in in making necessary preparations.
Meanwhile, six delegates, including one Bruneian, are being flown from Greece and are expected to arrive in Malaysia on Thursday (Oct 2).
The group comprises Abdul Rahim Azhari, Muhammad Khairin Afiq Mohd Subkhi, Ahmad Safuan Ujar, Mohd Asri Tuan Hussein, Nur Ilham Fansuri Zainal Rashid and Rezahmaisalamah Md Yusof (Brunei). They will continue their work with the SNCC to support the secretariat as the mission develops.
As of 7.50am Malaysian time today, 12 Malaysians have been confirmed detained by Israeli forces after their vessels entered the R3 red zone, about 100 nautical miles from Gaza, late last night.
Of the 34-member Malaysian delegation, 23 sailed toward Gaza, while four joined observer vessels.

SNCC director-general Datuk Dr Sani Araby Abdul Alim Araby said the activists detained are currently being held on board their respective vessels and are believed to be safe.
