As one of the world’s largest producers of certified sustainable palm oil, Guthrie designed the run to highlight the island’s blend of ecological richness, cultural heritage, and innovation in regenerative agriculture.

The event will soon be followed by the Carey Heritage Ride, scheduled for Oct 26, held in conjunction with National Sports Month, celebrated every October.

Each winner represented the spirit of perseverance, teamwork and community that defined the event.

Board Member Jenifer Thien and Chief Human Resources Officer Shahrizan Aini Shamsul Khalil secured second and third places respectively in the 10KM Women’s Veteran category—a moment that reflected Guthrie’s purpose statement, “Care to Nourish, Dare to Flourish.”

The Carey Heritage Run followed the success of last weekend’s Carey Heritage Bird Photography Competition, where nature enthusiasts captured stunning images of 65 bird species, 34 of which were newly identified on the island.

This remarkable discovery further demonstrated Carey Island’s growing reputation as a haven for biodiversity, ecotourism, and conservation.

Together, the Carey Heritage Run and Ride form a meaningful part of Guthrie’s initiative to nurture the connection between people and the planet.

They are more than just sporting events; they represent a movement that celebrates local heritage, sustainable living and the future of Malaysia’s green economy.
