KUALA LUMPUR – Chants of “Free free Palestine” filled Dataran Merdeka as participants of the Bantah Trump rally gathered here on Sunday.

Many were seen waving Palestinian flags and holding placards condemning acts of genocide.

Among those present were Amanah International Bureau chairman Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad and activist Tian Chua, who is also the former Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice-president.

The rally was initially scheduled to take place at Ampang Park, Jalan Ampang, but was moved to Dataran Merdeka at the last minute.

United States President Donald Trump arrived in Malaysia on Sunday to attend the 47th Asean Summit in Kuala Lumpur.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus stressed that the public must comply with the law in line with the democratic values practised in the country to maintain peace and public order.

Fadil said Ampang Park was not a suitable location for the rally based on police intelligence and analysis, as it was located about 50 metres from a red zone area.

The red zone marked an area actively used as part of the official routes for Asean summit delegations.
