KUALA LUMPUR – Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal said he had no intention of joining another political party following Bersatu’s decision to suspend his membership for one term.
The former Bersatu Armada chief stressed that he and other members facing disciplinary action were determined to focus their energy on restoring the party’s strength and integrity.
“For now, we will fight to fix Bersatu. I believe, God willing, God will help us because we did not do anything wrong,” he told reporters at the Parliament Media Centre on Tuesday.
Earlier, the Bersatu Disciplinary Board expelled Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan and suspended Wan Ahmad Fayhsal’s membership for one term over a statutory declaration (SD) issue linked to efforts to pressure party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to step down.
However, both MPs’ positions in Parliament remain unaffected as party membership termination is not covered by the Federal Constitution’s provisions related to the anti-hopping law.
When asked about claims that several Bersatu MPs planned to send a memorandum urging Muhyiddin to resign, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal said he was unaware of such a move.
“I do not know because I did not sign any document. I am not involved in whatever other MPs are doing, maybe there are some. I have spoken out, Wan Saiful has also spoken out, and many others have done the same,” he said.
He also admitted that during one of the Bersatu Armada meetings, he was the one who voiced the opinion that ‘Abah’ (Muhyiddin) was no longer relevant, but he clarified that the statement was made internally.
“I said that during a meeting, not outside,” he said.
Wan Ahmad Fayhsal added that he believes more Bersatu division chiefs and MPs will eventually push for Muhyiddin to step down as the party’s president.
