SHAH ALAM – Kepala Batas Bersatu division chief, Khaliq Mehtab Mohd Ishaq has resigned as chairman of the party’s Legal and Constitutional Bureau, citing differences of opinion with party President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
In a statement, Khaliq thanked Muhyiddin for the trust placed in him during his tenure as a member of the Supreme Council (MPT) member, adding that he had carried out his duties “with integrity and full commitment” to the party’s cause.
“However, I accept that my service as a member of the MPT has been discontinued as I did not fully support the President’s stance on several matters.
“I respect that decision, but as an elected MPT member entrusted to strengthen the party institution, I believe the right to voice differing opinions and views is part of the democratic spirit within the party we love,” he added.
Khaliq also called for a smooth and responsible transition of power to strengthen party unity and its long-term direction.
He clarified that his remarks stemmed from a sense of duty and affection towards Bersatu, not rebellion against its leadership.
“Lastly, I hope that in the future, appointments to the MPT will be based on capability, credibility, and the principles of struggle, not merely to form a line of ‘Yes Men’.
“A strong party is built upon diversity of views and the courage to speak the truth,” Khaliq added.
