PUTRAJAYA – About 10 million formal sector workers will soon receive enhanced social security coverage under the Lindung 24/7 Scheme, part of the Lindung Pekerja programme by the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso).
The scheme, announced by the Human Resources Ministry (Kesuma) aimed to ensure Malaysian workers were protected anytime, anywhere - even beyond working hours.
Here’s what you need to know:
1. Protection beyond the workplace
Lindung 24/7 extends coverage to accidents that happen outside working hours and at any location.
Whether it is a weekend trip, a commute or an errand after office hours, workers will still be protected - 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
2. Backed by law
The first reading of the Bill to amend the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4) has already been tabled in the Dewan Rakyat on Oct 30.
The amendment marks a major step in expanding Malaysia’s social protection network through the introduction of Lindung 24/7.
The second and third readings are expected in December, to be tabled by Human Resources Minister Steven Sim.
3. What’s covered
The scheme offers a wide range of benefits, including:
- Medical coverage
- Temporary and permanent disablement benefits
- Dependants’ benefits
- Constant attendance allowance
- Funeral benefits
- Rehabilitation and education assistance
This ensures workers and their families remain financially supported even in the event of serious accidents or injuries.
4. Reflects today’s work realities
According to Kesuma, the changes acknowledged modern work trends such as flexible schedules and remote work, which exposed employees to risks beyond the traditional workplace.
Lindung 24/7 aimed to bridge this gap, giving all workers the assurance that protection does not stop when the workday ends.
5. Supporting workers and the healthcare system
The scheme not only benefits workers but also helps ease pressure on the public healthcare system.
By ensuring injured workers receive financial aid and rehabilitation support, the initiative strengthens Malaysia’s overall social safety net.
A commitment to continuous protection
Kesuma said the introduction of Lindung 24/7 reflects the Madani government’s commitment to ensuring that every worker in Malaysia is protected at all times and under all circumstances.
