KUALA LUMPUR – Interest in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) has skyrocketed, with 20,000 Malaysians registering to be part of the humanitarian mission following the team’s latest voyage to Gaza.
According to Cinta Gaza Malaysia chief executive officer Nadir Al-Nuri, the number represented a massive surge from just 600 Malaysians who had registered before the mission began.
“Six hundred Malaysians registered to join GSF through its official website before the mission.
“But after the mission ended, another 20,000 signed up. Break the silence Malaysia: accomplished,” he said in a Facebook post on Monday.
The GSF mission, which aimed to deliver aid to Gaza, faced a major obstacle when Israeli forces intercepted all 42 vessels involved on Oct 2.
A total of 495 activists were detained, including 23 Malaysians, who were released in stages beginning Oct 4.
Nadir’s announcement reflected a renewed wave of Malaysian solidarity for Gaza and the growing determination among citizens to support humanitarian efforts despite escalating risks.
