KULIM – A moment of unbearable heartbreak ended in tragedy when a 30-year-old woman and her four-year-old daughter were found dead inside their home in Kulim, leaving behind a note that read, “I can’t bear the heartbreak, so I had to take them with me.”
The tragedy unfolded on Tuesday night after neighbours reported hearing a young boy screaming from the house.
Kulim District Police Chief, Superintendent Zulkifli Azizan said his team received a distress call at 11.05pm from a member of the public about an unconscious woman.
“A team from the Kulim Hi-Tech police station was dispatched to the location and found that the mother and daughter had already passed away in the master bedroom,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Investigations revealed that the woman had been struggling emotionally, believed to be distraught after discovering her boyfriend’s alleged affair with another woman.
Adding to the heartbreak, her seven-year-old son was also attacked but managed to survive.
“The boy sustained abrasions on his neck and pain around the jaw area. He is currently receiving treatment at Kulim Hospital,” Zulkifli said.
He added that no signs of forced entry or struggle were found in the house. The bodies of the deceased have been sent to the Forensic Department at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar for post-mortem examination.
Zulkifli confirmed that police recovered two handwritten notes believed to have been left by the deceased.
“One of the notes stated, ‘I can’t bear the heartbreak. They can’t live with anyone else, that’s why I had to take them both with me,’” he said.
The mother's MyKad and her two children's MyKads, along with her Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card, were also found neatly placed near the notes in the living room.
Police have classified the case under Sections 302 and 307 of the Penal Code for murder and attempted murder.
