KOTA KINABALU – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will respond soon on the surprise resignation of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick from the Cabinet.
Two events attended by Anwar on Sunday morning at Tamu Jalan Gaya and the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) drew media attention as reporters awaited his comments on the matter, but none have been given so far.
However, when asked by reporters after attending the Rancakkan Madani Sabah programme at SICC, Anwar hinted that he would respond soon.
“I will (respond), I will…,” he briefly said.
It was reported that Ewon has resigned on the grounds of principle and his stance on the implementation of Sabah’s 40 per cent revenue entitlement enshrined in both the Malaysia Agreement 1963 and the Federal Constitution.
His decision came after carefully reviewing the written judgment by Kota Kinabalu High Court judge Celestina Stuel Galid in relation to a judicial review application filed by the Sabah Law Society.
Ewon’s move was expected to send ripples through the political landscape of Sabah, where calls for autonomy and fair revenue distribution remained deeply sensitive issues.
