RIO DE JANEIRO - Brazilian football star Oscar collapsed with heart problems during a performance test at his club São Paulo on Wednesday, reported German Press Agency (dpa).
The 34-year-old was treated by doctors on site and then taken to the hospital for further examination, his club said.
Local media reported that he collapsed while on the exercise bike and briefly lost consciousness. Shortly afterwards, Oscar thanked his fans for their support.
"Thank you very much for the messages and prayers," the midfielder wrote on Instagram. "Everything will be fine, God willing."
Oscar, who has recently been plagued by injuries, is under contract with São Paulo until the end of 2027. Brazilian media are now speculating that he could end his career prematurely.
After making his professional debut with his home club São Paulo, Oscar played in the Premier League for Chelsea from 2012 to 2016 before moving to Shanghai Port in China.
He has played 48 games for the Brazilian national team and scored the only goal in their 7-1 defeat to Germany at the 2014 World Cup. - BERNAMA-dpa
