Woman jumps from moving car to escape abusive husband

A woman jumps out of a moving car to escape being assaulted by her husband in an incident along Jalan Lencongan Timur on Wednesday.

The victim alleged she had earlier been dragged from her own vehicle into her husband’s car at a petrol station in Sungai Lalang at about 6pm.

Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said the victim lodged a report claiming a struggle broke out inside the car while she was with her husband.

He said the victim alleged she had earlier been dragged from her own vehicle into her husband’s car at a petrol station in Sungai Lalang at about 6pm.

“During the journey, a fight ensued, prompting the victim to try to break free from her husband, who was believed to be angry.

“When they reached the Jalan Lencongan Timur junction, she jumped out of the car after opening the passenger door, fearing for her safety,” he said.

The victim was found to have jumped from the vehicle she was in with her husband.

Hanyan said preliminary investigations found that the couple married in October 2024 but had been living apart for the past month after the victim claimed she was frequently assaulted.

Following the incident, the husband was arrested and remanded to assist police investigations.

The Sungai Petani court approved a two-day remand order to facilitate further inquiries.

The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act.
