KLANG - A police officer was injured after being hit by a car driven by a robbery suspect who attempted to flee during an arrest at a petrol station along Persiaran Raja Muda Musa in Klang.

Klang Selatan District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Ramli Kasa said the incident occurred at about 2.30pm on Wednesday, when officers encountered a white Toyota Vios believed to be connected to a robbery case in Subang Jaya.

“When the arrest was about to be made, the suspect acted aggressively by pushing a police officer and fleeing in his car.

“During the incident, the suspect’s car hit and almost ran over the officer’s leg before crashing into the police vehicle. The suspect then drove against traffic onto the main road heading towards Shah Alam.

“The suspect later abandoned his car by the roadside at Persiaran Sultan Ibrahim before escaping,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

Ramli added that the officer suffered injuries in the incident.

Following investigations, police arrested a 33-year-old local man around 12.45am on Thursday in the Bandar Bukit Tinggi area of Klang.

“The suspect, who has 20 previous criminal records and five past drug offences, is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant from carrying out his duties, and Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder,” he said.

He said police would continue investigations into the suspect’s involvement in other criminal cases.

Prior to the arrest, a one-minute-17-second video recorded by a bystander at the scene went viral, showing the suspect’s white Toyota Vios fleeing after the incident and the injured officer lying on the ground.

Members of the public were seen rushing to assist and checking on the officer’s condition.
