SHAH ALAM - The push for MIC to quit Barisan Nasional (BN) gained formal traction Sunday, emerging as one of three key resolutions from the party's delegates during the 79th Annual General Assembly 2025 at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) here on Sunday.

Based on a resolution circulated to grassroots members at the divisional, branch and leadership levels, the delegates' meeting was unanimously ready to do so after considering the country's current political situation.

"The meeting also took into account a comprehensive assessment of MIC's position and interests within the BN coalition.

"The existing cooperation no longer provides sufficient space for MIC to play an effective role in championing the interests of the Indian community and contributing to national development in this country," according to the delegates' resolution.

Therefore, it said, MIC was ready to terminate its participation in BN, subject to the processes and provisions stipulated in the MIC Constitution.

"MIC is ready to formally apply to join the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition with the aim of building a new, more inclusive, and principled platform that provides a broader space for the voice of the Indian community in Malaysia.

The second resolution also expressed solid and undivided support for the party's leadership, namely Vigneswaran and his Deputy President Datuk Seri M. Saravanan.

The third resolution concerned MIC's position and future in the country's political landscape.

It grants full mandate to the president to make the best strategic decisions for the party's political future, including considering any political cooperation realignment or new alliances in line with MIC's fundamental principles and struggles.
