SHAH ALAM - MIC President Tan Sri S. A. Vigneswaran confirmed he met with the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last Friday regarding the intention to leave Barisan Nasional (BN).
He said Anwar, who is PKR President, had suggested that MIC reconsider the matter given that both have long been coalition partners.
"Anwar is open and straightforward, he asked, and I explained what actually happened.
"It's not that we were negotiating for seats, we stated our intention to leave BN. So he asked MIC to think carefully," he said at a press conference after the 79th MIC Annual General Assembly at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) here on Sunday.
Previously, Sinar reported that the MIC meeting decided to postpone the decision on whether the party would leave or remain in BN.
However, Vigneswaran said all three resolutions including leaving BN, have been received, approved and handed over to the Central Working Committee (CWC) leadership.
He clarified that delegates from each state have the right to propose such matters, but the decision needs to be examined by the CWC first.
If the resolution to leave BN materialises, Vigneswaran said the party was open to cooperating with any party aside from Perikatan Nasional (PN), possibly with Pakatan Harapan (PH).
