SHAH ALAM - The nationwide flood situation continued to worsen as the number of evacuees reached 10,750 as of 6am on Monday.
According to the Social Welfare Department’s Info Bencana, the rising figures reflected the severe weather and increasing river levels affecting eight states across the country.
Kelantan remained the worst-hit state, with 8,231 victims seeking shelter at 33 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) in districts such as Tumpat, Bachok, Kota Bharu and Pasir Puteh.
Perak reported the second-highest number of evacuees, with 907 people sheltering in 16 PPS located in Perak Tengah, Manjung, Larut, Matang and Selama and Batang Padang.
In Terengganu, 360 victims were moved to two centres in the Besut district, while Kedah recorded 337 evacuees across three PPS in Kulim.
Perlis saw 268 victims relocated to six PPS in Padang Besar and Kangar, whereas Penang recorded 237 evacuees at four centres in Seberang Perai Utara and Seberang Perai Tengah.
Selangor currently has 34 victims from nine families placed at one PPS in Sabak Bernam, while Sarawak reported 44 victims housed at a PPS in Miri.
Authorities continued to monitor weather patterns and river water levels in high-risk zones and urged the public to remain cautious and follow the latest safety instructions.
